Armando Elizondo

Armando Elizondo, born in Monterrey, Mexico, received his musical training in piano and conducting at the conservatories of Monterrey and Düsseldorf. He was a member of the Niederrhein Opera Studio, where he worked as a singer and pianist, and of the Opera Studio de México, in whose productions he appeared in the title role of Gounod's ‘Faust’ and as Don Ottavio (‘Don Giovanni’). He also appeared as Pâris (‘Romeo et Juliette’) and Gherardo (‘Gianni Schicchi’). At the Sankt Goar International Music Festival and at the academy, he also received musical inspiration from Francisco Araiza, Edda Moser, Carlos Montané and Emilio Pons, among others. In the 2021.22 season, he was a member of the Bavarian State Opera's opera studio. There he sang roles including Policeman and Student (The Nose), Hélénus (Les Troyens), Malcolm (Macbeth), Remendado (Carmen) and Filippo in the new production of L'Iifedeltà delusa. Since the 2022.23 season, he has been a member of the International Opera Studio at the Cologne Opera. Since then, he has sung the roles of the Narrator in Connor Mitchell's ‘The Musician’, Liberto in ‘L'incoronazione di Poppea’, Parpignol in ‘La Bohème’, Ruggiero in ‘Der Gesang der Zauberinsel’, the First Minstrel arnischter in ‘The Magic Flute’, Arturo in ‘Lucia di Lammermoor’, Tybalt in Blacher's ‘Romeo and Juliet’, the dog in the children's opera ‘The Bremen Town Musicians’ and Robert the Devil in ‘Pünktchen and Anton’. In 2024, he also made a guest appearance as a policeman in Shostakovich's ‘The Nose’ at the Bavarian State Opera.
Further roles in Cologne during the 2024.25 season include Abdallo in Nabucco, a young servant in Elektra, Tamino in The Magic Flute for Young Audiences, Remendado in Carmen, as well as appearances in the new Community Opera and in Saariaho's La Passion de Simone.
