Kathrin Zukowski
Vita
After graduating with a degree in classical guitar, Kathrin Zukowski studied vocal pedagogy and opera/concert at the Detmold University of Music and then completed a Master's degree in music theatre/opera singing at the August Everding Theatre Academy in Munich under Lars Woldt. During her studies, she sang at the reopening of the Margravial Opera House in Bayreuth in a leading role of Hasse's ‘Artaserse’, together with the Munich Hofkapelle under the direction of Michael Hofstetter. In August 2018, she made her role debut at the Munich Chamber Opera as Fiordiligi in Mozart's ‘Così fan tutte’. Kathrin Zukowski is a scholarship holder of the Richard Wagner Society in Bielefeld, a two-time scholarship holder of the Hasse Society and winner of the special ‘Best Singer’ prize at the ‘Giangiacomo Guelfi’ opera competition in Bolzano.
From 2018, she was a member of the Cologne Opera's International Opera Studio for two seasons, after which she joined the Cologne Opera ensemble. Her roles here have included Niece in Britten's ‘Peter Grimes’, Antonia in ‘The Tales of Hoffmann for Children’, Marzelline in ‘Fidelio’, Contessa in Salieri's ‘La scuola de’ gelosi’, Périzade in Offenbach's “Barkouf”, Princess in “The Devil with the Three Golden Hairs” and Musetta in “La Bohème”. In the 2020.21 season, she made her role debut - also at Cologne Opera - as Pamina in Mozart's ‘The Magic Flute’ and her role debut as Susanna in Mozart's ‘Le nozze di Figaro’ (stream) with great success.
In the 2021.22 season, she appeared in ‘Schnittstellen [II]’, a production by Oper Köln and a cooperation project between Oper Köln and InterArtes e.V., in the world premiere of ‘Pepita Lunarium’ by Matej Bonin. Kathrin Zukowski's other roles include her role debuts as Gretel in ‘Hänsel und Gretel’ and Konstanze in ‘Die Entführung aus dem Serail’ as well as Micaëla in ‘Carmen’.
Since 2022.23 Kathrin Zukowski's roles in Cologne have included Donna Clara in ‘Der Zwerg’, Musetta in ‘La Bohème’, Cleopatra in ‘Giulio Cesare in Egitto’, Pamina in ‘Die Zauberflöte’, Adina in ‘Der Liebestrank’, E in the world premiere of Ondřej Adámek's ‘INES’, Ilia in ‘Idomeneo’ and Gabriel in ‘Die Schöpfung’. She is the winner of the Cologne Offenbach Prize 2023, awarded by the Freunde der Kölner Oper e. V.
In January 2023, she was a guest soloist at a concert by the Tonkünstler Orchestra Vienna under the direction of Alfred Eschwé. In December 2024, she will appear at the Vienna State Opera as Ighino in Pfitzner's ‘Palestrina’ under the direction of Christian Thielemann. Donna Anna in ‘Don Giovanni’, Lya in ‘Eine Frau von Format’ and, for the first time, the title role in ‘Lucia di Lammermoor’ will also follow at the Cologne Opera.
