Absolvent*innen der HfMT Köln präsentieren Meisterwerke aus Oper und Operette
Description
The young stars of tomorrow, ten Master's graduates from the various singing classes at the Cologne University of Music and Dance, present a cross-section of the opera and operetta repertoire from the 18th to 21st centuries at the Staatenhaus.
In addition to the great classics, the programme also includes some rarities, duets and scenes from music theatre works from Handel to Britten. The programme includes the duet ‘Là ci darem la mano’ from the opera ‘Don Giovanni’ by W.A. Mozart, Max's aria ‘Durch die Wälder, durch die Auen’ from the opera ‘Der Freischütz’ by Carl Maria von Weber, Musetta's aria from ‘La Boheme’ by Giacomo Puccini or ‘Dein ist mein ganzes Herz’ from the operetta ‘Das Land des Lächelns’ by Franz Lehar, but also the floral duet ‘Sous le dôme épais où le blanc jasmin’ from the tragic opera ‘Lakme’ by Léo Delibes or the duet ‘Scherzano sul tuo volto’ from the opera ‘Rinaldo’ by Georg Friedrich Händel.
The young singers will be accompanied on the piano by Prof Timo Handschuh, who celebrated his brilliant debut at the Cologne University of Music and Dance last year with his conducting of Cimarosa's opera rediscovery ‘Le Trame deluse’ in Cologne.
The concert marks the start of a new collaboration between the Cologne Opera and the HfMT Cologne as part of the university's centenary celebrations. The aim of the Master's programme is to prepare singers with a wide range of training for a promising career. The immediate proximity to theatres and production facilities can be a stable bridge into the opera business. Students have the opportunity to present their skills to an audience outside the university and gain valuable experience for their future artistic career.
In return, the Cologne Opera will give a concert at the university on 3 November 2025 to mark the university's anniversary.
