With its rousing programme and popular raffle, the Red Cross Benefit Matinee is a crowd-puller. The programme of the good two-hour concert, in which the members of the opera ensemble – from well-known soloists to the large opera choir – present a varied and entertaining programme on a voluntary basis, revolves around Advent and Christmas. Musical highlights from current opera productions are just as much a part of the programme as festive, international Christmas songs. The gala matinee is supplemented by an extensive supporting programme in which the Red Cross presents its work. The rescue dog team, the ambulance service and the trips for senior citizens also play their part. One of the main attractions of the accompanying programme remains the Red Cross raffle with numerous high-quality prizes such as concert tickets, hotel or restaurant vouchers. All the proceeds from the popular charity event are used by the Cologne Red Cross to help people in acute need.
