Tomáš Netopil
Vita
Tomáš Netopil was music director of the Prague National Theatre from 2008 to 2012. He studied violin and conducting in his native Czech Republic and at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm under the direction of Professor Jorma Panula. In 2002, he won the 1st Sir Georg Solti Conducting Competition at the Alte Oper Frankfurt.
Highlights of his concert career in recent years have included invitations to perform with the Berlin Philharmonic, the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, RSB Berlin and Konzerthausorchester Berlin, the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich, Orchestre de Paris, London Philharmonic, Philharmonia Orchestra London, BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, Nederlands Radio Filharmonisch Orkest (at the Concertgebouw Amsterdam), Orchestre National de Montpellier, Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte Carlo, Orchestra Sinfonica della RAI and the Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra in Tokyo. He has made regular guest appearances at the Saxon State Opera in Dresden, the Vienna State Opera and the Nederlandse Opera Amsterdam. Tomáš Netopil's CD recordings include Janácek's Glagolitic Mass (first recording of the 1927 version), Dvorák's complete works for cello, Martinu's opera Ariane as well as his double concerto and Smetana's Má vlast with the Prague Symphony Orchestra. He recorded Suk's Asrael and Mahler's Symphonies Nos. 6 and 9 with the Essen Philharmonic.
In addition to his own concert and opera activities, Tomáš Netopil is intensively involved in supporting young musicians.In 2018, he founded the Kromeríž International Music Academy. In the summer of 2021, he founded the Dvorák Prague Youth Philharmonic in collaboration with the Dvorák Prague Festival, where the young musicians are coached by members of the Czech Philharmonic. In the 2024/25 season, Tomáš Netopil will conduct the production of DON GIOVANNI at the Cologne Opera.
