Winner of the Young Talent Award for Best Young Baritone at the International Competition, Mario Lanza began his career with important debuts in ‘Don Carlo’ (Rodrigo), ‘Trovatore’ (Conte di Luna), ‘La traviata’ (Giorgio Germont), “Tosca” (Scarpia), “Il tabarro” (Michele), “Gianni Schicchi”, “Cavalleria rusticana” (Alfio), “I Pagliacci” (Tonio) and in “Carmen” (Escamillo). His most recent roles include as Rigoletto in Parma and Trieste, in ‘Les pêcheurs de perles’ (as Zurga) in Trieste and Muscat, in ‘I vespri siciliani’ (Guy de Montfort) at Gut Immling, in ‘Aida’ (Amonasro) at the Sferisterio Opera Festival in Macerata, at the Teatro Comunale in Bologna and in Kiel, where he also sang in ‘Guillaume Tell’, ‘Falstaff’ and Amonasro in ‘Aida’. He has also appeared as Count Luna in Verdi's ‘Il trovatore’ in Trieste, Sharpless (‘Madama Butterfly’) and in the title roles in ‘Simon Boccanegra’ in Bologna, ‘Nabucco’ in Trieste and in ‘Rigoletto’ at the Deutsche Oper Berlin.
For the Phoenix Recording House label, he was the soloist on the world premiere recording of Mozart's complete Masonic music. Among the most important conductors he has worked with are Riccardo Muti, Nello Santi, Gianluigi Gelmetti, Steven Mercurio, Bruno Campanella, Marcello Panni, Marco Balderi, Stefano Seghedoni, Marzio Conti and Alain Lombard. His most recent engagements include Don Carlo di Vargas in ‘La forza del destino’ in Toulon, Montpellier and Bologna, Scarpia in ‘Tosca’ in Trieste, Genoa, Zagreb and Nantes.
