Simón Orfila

Born in Alaior (Menorca), Simón Orfila began singing at the age of sixteen in the chorus of the Mahón Opera (Menorca). He studied singing with Maty Pinkas in Bulgaria and continued his training at the Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía in Madrid, where he became a pupil of Alfredo Kraus, with whom he studied until his death.
Simón Orfila took part in numerous recitals and concerts in Spain (Menorca, Mallorca, Madrid, Barcelona, Seville and Alicante), Helsinborg (Sweden) and Toulouse (France).
He has sung several roles in Palma de Mallorca, Mahón, at the Teatro Nacional de São Carlos in Lisbon, Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona (‘Norma’, ‘Turandot’, ‘Lucia di Lammermoor’, ‘Le nozze di Figaro’ in a production by Robert Carsen, ‘Un ballo in maschera’, ‘I Puritani’, ‘Samson et Dalila’ with José Carreras, “La Bohème”, “La clemenza di Tito”, “La Favorite”, “Don Giovanni”, “Il viaggio a Reims”, “Maria Stuarda”, “L'elisir d'amore”, “La Gazzetta”, “Semiramide”, “La Cenerentola”, “L'arbore di Diana” and “Anna Bolena”). Further engagements have taken him to Oviedo (‘Anna Bolena’, ‘Tosca’, ‘Le nozze di Figaro’, ‘Il barbiere di Siviglia’, ‘Don Giovanni’), Las Palmas (‘Le nozze di Figaro’, ‘I Puritani’, ‘Lucrezia Borgia’), Tokyo (‘Norma’), the Teatro Real in Madrid (‘La Cenerentola’, ‘Le nozze di Figaro‘, “Il viaggio a Reims”, “L'arbore di Diana”), to the Deutsche Oper Berlin (’Le nozze di Figaro‘, “Norma”), to San Sebastián (’La donna del lago‘), Naples (’La Bohème’, “La Cenerentola”, “Socrate immaginario”, ‘Le nozze di Figaro‘ with Jeffrey Tate, “Don Giovanni”), Turin (’La Cenerentola‘, “Don Giovanni”), La Coruña (’Le comte Ory‘, “Adelaide di Borgogna”), Genoa (’La Cenerentola‘), Florence (’Il barbiere di Siviglia’, “L'italiana in Algeri”), Milan (‘Socrate immaginario’, ‘Il viaggio a Reims’), Bologna (‘L'italiana in Algeri’), Montpellier (‘La Cenerentola’, ‘Semiramide’, ‘Goyescas’), Munich (‘Norma’), Santiago de Chile (‘Le nozze di Figaro’), Geneva (‘La Cenerentola’) and Lima (‘Norma’).
He has also appeared on stage in productions of ‘Lucia di Lammermoor’ in Bilbao, Seville and Oviedo, ‘La donna del lago’ in Paris, Milan and London, ‘Linda di Chamounix’ at the Liceu in Barcelona and ‘Guillaume Tell’ in Pesaro and Bologna.
His most recent engagements include: Escamillo in ‘Carmen’ in Barcelona, Pamplona, San Sebastian and at the Teatro Colòn in Buenos Aires, the title role in ‘Don Pasquale’ in Bilbao, Colline in ‘La Bohème’ in La Coruña and Zaccaria in ‘Nabucco’ in Seville.
